accidents...floode d roads ...downed trees and power outages... the last wave ofa powerful storm drenches they area...and moves on... >>> good evening. accidents flooded roads, downed trees and power outages. the last wave of a powerful storm drenches the bay area and then it moves on. within a few hours the clouds cleared and the sun returned, leaving many to cleanup and salvage their sunday. let's get a look at the storm totals, paul? >> reporter: a lot of rainfall over a 5-day period. santa rosa you took the cake. nearly 8 inches of rain for you. we had 4 inches of rain, more than that in san francisco. oakland, 3-1/2 and san jose 2 1/2 inches of rain. we are mainly clear. not a drop of rain anywhere in the bay area. normal rainfall for the entire month of december in san francisco. over 4 inches. we had more than that over just the past 5 days. in case you were not outside this morning it was windy. 63 mile-an-hour wind gusts, napa, 53 miles per hour. and at the airport, sfo, 52 miles per hour. heavy rain, done, cheer night, more rain in the fore-- clear night, more rain in
to san leandro, golf links road getting wet, as you head towards broadway terrace getting wetback to san francisco better radar returns around castro street and delores and mission streets to the ocean and then off the ocean that's where that wave is that we talked about yesterday, now developing and what concerns me about in wave it is slowing the forward progress of this cold front and starting to train echoes that means we are having waves of moderate to heavy rain roll over the same areas two or three or four times now and that's going to create flooding. good news the winds are very light now so hopefully the trees can hold on. the rain is heaviest during the morning, then scattered showers for the afternoon. you are going to deal with the worst of it now through 9:00. >>> roads are slick, wet, a lot of accidents, east shore freeway, earlier accident in the westbound direction past golden gate fields, just jammed bumper-to-bumper that accident has been cleared. eastbound at gilman other direction that accident cleared. a bit of moderate slowing through that area of richmond berkeley
construction of that connector road. we will work with other agency partners including the pc as well as cost saving and looking at if we can reduce that prop k portion of the connector road funding plan. the next thing we looked at is -- the community said they do support choosing a option that supports a station as well as master planning effort. there's a lot of support for that effort to rebuild the southeast plant. that's something that we have taken into account. we've also heard a lot from the community about making sure we're maintaining access through the area. that's both on a permanent basis as well as a temporary basis during construction. we've started to take a look at that and will continue to look at that in the next phase of design with our funding request today. but essentially, we've looked at all three options, all bridge replacement options would require a temporary short term closure of access through the area for construction staging. what we'll continue to look at and we've looked at a couple options including the building and connector road first, we'll continue to l

with the connector road really are not ideal are the best options we have in terms of maintaining that bridge with the funds we have in terms of facilitating a station and maintaining local access. and in terms of facilitating other land use activities in the area. those include the pc but go into a little more detail. we also included in this package of improvement and city project for the connector road a vacation of the northeastern portion of quint street. that is in the diagram, the red area. that area actually operates two areas of properties as they work to plan the relocation of those digesters. this package in the connector road project intends to really maximize that compatibility and facilitate that process that we've heard support for. finally, the purpose of this request is to really iron out some of those final questions and issues that the community has raised that we haven't been able to answer quite yet given the phase of design we're at. there are two pieces of recommendations. the first is to recommend support for cal train to proceed with design of their option one, the be

the weekend storm left a big mess on the roads in the bay area. up in ma rain county, the panoramic highway was completely blocked by a large tea you see here. this is just above downtown mill valley. it took crews a lot of time to get up the narrow road and longer to start clearing the debris. motorists stuck in the area had to go all the way back to stet son beach and use highway 1 south to get back to the freeway. a rock long, long way to go. >>> and a massive sink hole happened on the stony point road south of highway 116. a trainnage pipe under the road caused the pavement to collapse. road crews brought in massive steel plates to cover it while repairs were made. >> we're taking safety precautions to make sure a car doesn't fall through and fall into the hole. >> crews say the road could be closed for three days wheel they patch up that hole. >>> a storm in the sierra dumped a ton of snow. they got 6 to 8 feet of it. skiers, snow boarders and sled riders headed to the high country to enjoy it. but with winds gusting to 70 miles per hour, driving was dangerous, and slowgoing to the res
